What Your Boiler Pressure Should Be When It's Heated
In a backpressure steam turbine, energy from high-pressure inlet steam is efficiently converted into electricity, and low-pressure exhaust steam is provided to a plant process. The turbine exhaust steam has a lower temperature than the superheated steam created when pressure is reduced through a PRV. In order to make up for this heat or enthalpy

Dec 08, 2002 · The back pressure in this case is any pressure (even atmospheric) that exists to oppose the flow of the exhaust steam. If you can exhaust into a vacuum, you get a LOT more oomph out of your engine (or turbine) than if you are exhausting into a 10 PSIG building heating system. (This is exactly the same as a back pressure turbine.)
What is Back Pressure? The 'back pressure' is the pressure just downstream of the steam trap. In other words, back pressure is the outlet or secondary pressure of the trap. The difference between a trap's inlet (primary) pressure and back pressure is called the 'differential pressure'.
Dec 30, 2019 · These generally trip at 30 psi and release excess steam to bring the pressure back to normal. It'll also kick off the power to your boiler. That can range from "inconvenient" to "aggravation" based on the time of year and your local climate. If yours goes off because of high pressure, power it down until a professional sees it.
The operator control should be set about 5–10 PSI above the actual steam pressure you want to maintain in the boiler. This allows the boiler to reach low fire and if steam pressure keeps rising, it will shut down the boiler. The boiler will restart when the pressure drops below the differential set on the operator.
Click to enlarge and you can see the actual pressure settings on the steam boiler control shown at left. 0.2 psi = 0.014 Bar or about 1378 Pascal of pressure - typical low-end of residential steam boiler pressure settings. 0.5 psi = 0.034 Bar or about 3447 Pascal of …
